Travel and Tourism

Tourism is travel for leisure, recreational and business purpose. Tourists can be defined as people who travel to and stay in places outside their usual surroundings for more than twenty-four hours and not more than one consecutive year for leisure, business and other purposes by the World Tourism Organization.
Tourism is a known affair in human life. It has been an industry of vast dimensions and eventually supports economic and social growth. Tourism worldwide has experienced phenomenal growth. With more than 600 million people travelling annually, tourism is the world's largest industry, with revenues of about half a trillion dollars a year, and averaging five percent annual growth.

Our approach to tourism development

  • Human rights and self-determination of communities must be at the core of every tourism development. This includes the right to meaningful participation and consultation including free, prior and informed consent on whether to what extent and in what form tourism takes place.
  • If tourism is developed, it needs to seek a widespread and fair distribution of economic and social benefits throughout the recipient communities, including improving local prosperity, quality of life and social equity.Tourism industry operators and governments must be accountable to the people whose land and cultures are being utilised for the benefit of tourists and tourism businesses.
  • Strategies must empower people to have a say in the development of their communities and country.
  • Attention must be given to marginalised and vulnerable groups such as women, children, minorities, illegal workers and indigenous people working or affected by the tourism industry.
  • Tourism should be a positive and beneficial experience for travellers and hosts alike in order to act as a force for mutual understanding, empathy and respect.
Travelling may be an expensive hobby but is compensates the financial loss. If a traveler has interest in life and its manifestations, one can find much to keep oneself absorbed and happy. A student of any stream can definitely find something of his own interest and studies. One can definitely find everything that satisfies his intellectual and sensuous cravings.
As a hobby, travelling keeps us busy during leisure time; it is the best method to utilize time. Till a person breaks from dull routine, physically and mentally; one cannot find satisfaction. Travelling helps us to achieve this break. At a new place, one is curious to know and eager to gather all the unknown information about the place which he has neither read nor heard before he gets thrills and surprises which keep the interest and enthusiasm alive and encourages us to keep our journey on.
While travelling, one comes across a number of people from varied backgrounds and places. By interacting with them, he comes to know about their heritages also. In case one has psychological bent of mind, one increases one’s experience and power to understand others. Understanding human nature is, perhaps, the best part of education. Travelling satisfies all demands of a good hobby – it is absorbing education and refreshment to the mind, body and soul.
